These portals create too many layers.
not if the portal is here in addition to the other pages. Nobody is obliged to use them, but in some circumstances using them is good (I use them one on a while)
But if you use the Wiki directly (wiki.opensuse.org forwards to it) your access point is through the portal. So from the front page, the wiki is a tiny link. Then you get to the portal screen. Then you choose the distribution portal. Then you are presented with advertisement or promotion before you get to the categories. Then the categories appear uninviting (same with Arch). Compare to e.g. http://wow.gamepedia.com/Portal:Main They also use a portal system apparently. Another one is: http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Main I consider wowpedia ( gamepedia ) better. These sites are popular sites and they expose their content straight up in front such that the access path to what people want is shortest. You *could* present it in a much more natural way, the way the OpenSUSE wiki is, today. Of course if you only use google to get there.... but "search" as the only access path makes you feel alienated from the system. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
