sure, that's what POSIX specifies about the sleep utility; here's the original spec: https://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799/utilities/sleep.html Actual implementations like that in the GNU coreutils may vary, and add extensions. GNU sleep allows sub-seconds.
