I am having nothing but trouble setting up DHCP client on a suse 5.3 pc. I got the dhcp server working on another pc with suse 5.3. my windows clients have no problem connecting to it. I haven't rebooted the server, but i noticed when I reboot the client, the dhcp client stuff stops working. I like suse alot, but I am getting tired of messing with dhcp.
Two weeks ago I would have agreed with you. But I have since found that each distro has its strong points. SuSE makes an awesome workstation, but trying to make it into a gateway with DHCP is a losing proposition. (I patted myself on the back yesterday for setting SuSE up just like this. I rebooted it many times to prove it will work from ground zero, and 18 hours later, it's dead. No DHCP, won't init eth0, no routing.) Red Hat, on the other hand, handles DHCP with a mouse click. Throw in LinuxConf (which works in text mode and GUI) and the marketing (smell the money and the future), and I feel the pull, drawing me back into its clutches.
