I noticed that there's a security update for Firefox (it's version 2.0.0.12), which addresses several security vulnerabilities. It's been available for Windows and linux as a download on www.firefox.com for at least a few days, but it doesn't seem to be showing up as an available update in YaST2.

You know, this question, and an earlier one in another thread with the same theme from Sloan to me, raises the point on how much Linux based systems - like openSUSE - have/are becoming totally and utterly reliant on the distro provider to keep the OS running and to keep any apps. used on it running as well. Latest Firefox and Thunderbird are available from Mozilla.org but people are asking when the new, security -fixed, version will be produced so that zyppo or smart or apt or whatever will install the fixed version. The same thing was recently going on with OpenOffice - people were waiting for Suse to come up with a "fixed" version of OO, because the version of OO in openSUSE is 'massaged' to fit into openSUSE, when the 'fixed' version was readily available from the Sun site. Add to this (my view) that for all the newbies who are being encouraged to use Linux-based OS if a piece of software does not come bundled as an RPM to be installed automagically by the OS any mention of anything other than a RPM (eg 'tar ball' or anything ending in .gz or .bz2) sends them into a cataleptic state, and a change of their underwear becomes a necessity. Furthermore, should, *should*, a RPM then come up with dependency failure(s) then, oh my gosh!, oh golly!, not only do the 'newbies' but even 'the old hands' require smelling salts. In MS, even if the app. ends up biting you in the bum and chopping your knackers off, it will install if you simply execute the *.exe file - and it all installs without any 'dependency' hassles. Now that I got this off my chest.....
