Hello I have obtained @home.net cable modem service, and now I'm trying to set up my SuSE 5.2 Linux box kernel 2.0.33. I have obtained the following HowTo articles: Net3-HowTo Cablemodem-miniHowTo DCHP-miniHowTo Ethernet-HowTo I have read the above HowTo, and have the basic idea of how to setup my linux box. But I could use some pointers? 1. To start have @home.net set up and running on Windows 98, and obtained the IP Configuration information with the following command "winipcfg" 2. Next I have decided on 3COM Ethernet card 3C509B-TPO ISA. This card is well supported by Linux and has plenty of Data transfer speed for my needs and this is the card used in my Windows 98 machine. 3. I know I have to recompile my kernel to included Network support and support for my Ethernet card, but I do not exactly know which Network options to included ( I do not think I need all options ) in my kernel? 4. Now I have added my setting to the different configuration files, can any one give me and idea of which files have to be set up? My understanding is: I'm setting up a work station on the @home.net network and do not need to setup a network server on my Linux box correct?
