"Error in service module."

For awhile I haven't been able to boot via init 3 into console mode, nor to a login while in KDE. I get a "Error in service module" when I attempt to login with either my user account or root. Is there a way to fix this? I've not been able to find one, if there is. Thanks! Fred -- MickySoft, the ultimate corporate parasite.
