I wanted to update Kmail, I figured it would update Kde also to the latest Kde 4.1 not 4.2 . I did not add the 4.2 repository, nor did I intend on adding it or moving to 4.2. I am not sure what happened but I will start again from scratch with 11.0.
How did you update kmail?
Yast, package groups, clicked the KDE packages to change to Update. I did not think it would 'add' repositories, I expected it would update to the highest level of what was installed (Kde 4.1.xxx).
If you did not add any repo, you cannot install KDE 4.2 and hence your kmail and everything else is still KDE 4.1. YaST does not add repos by magic. zypper lr -u will tell you what repos you have (added). rpm -qa | grep kmail will show you the version you have installed.
