hi, I have two separate issues here. 1. Since my upgrade from KDE 3.0.2 to KDE 3.0.3. the modules in Yast2 have stopped working. I had this same prblem woth KDE 3.0.0 to 3.0.1 upgrade but lived with it until KDE 3.0.2 which fixed it. I have applied all the yast2 patches etc. I run a Yast2 module (hardware/Autodetect Printers) from my user login and enter the Administration mode and enter the correct password which is accepted. It then displays "YaST2 is starting up" for a short while and then nothing else happens. I've tried this from the Control Centre and menus but the same thing happens. I also tried Network/Advanced but got the same message. But running the ncurses version the modules work except the printer ones. The printer problem in ncurses may eventually give the same error (see below) as in the Gui but I think the GUI one fails before reporting the error. I think this maybe a QT problem because some of the other modules work either.
2. The printer problem reported in ncurses is that I have BSD spooler and cups loaded together - anyone know how to de-configure the BSD one? I thought installing CUPS deleted all other systems.
Is there a Suse-Yast mailing list anywhere?
regards and thanks for any help given
HI Ian, You can remove the printer packages via Yast2. Install/Remove software -> Hardware/Printing To remove the BSD printing stuff the following packages are involved:- Filters lpdfilters lprng Other packages which should not be installed with CUPS g-print (I think) turboprint If you have problems with cups I suggest you remove all the packages in the above section - exit yast and re-install cups again. cups cups-client cups-drivers cups-drivers-stp cups-libs qtcups gnome-print (maybe required) Also under System/Yast make sure you have installed:- yast2-config-cups yast2-lib-printer yast2-trans-cups Before configuring use YOU to update the packages Hope that helps Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
