How can I tell if it works?

      I'm trying to get a PC Card NIC to work on my laptop, and it uh, doesn't work!
However, I'm trying to figure out if it's a config error with connecting to the
DHCP server, or simply that it isn't working. Is there anyway I can simply test to
see if the NIC is working without the network connection working?
