[SuSE Linux] ppp server--HELP

Has anyone got linux to work as a ppp server for win NT 4.0 and/or win 98. I've been beating my head against a wall on this one. PPP dials out OK and I can get the win box to login using mgetty and PAP but I can't pass packets. Who on Linux tells me I'm logged in and on the correct ttyS0 --win 98 says connected via PAP and tcp up-- BUT, NO ping or tcpip?? Getting very aggravated since I had this working on an old slackware system with win 95.
