SMART [WAS: online_update from two YAST repositories?]

James have you tried smart out yet ? any good ?

Not as yet, more through laziness than an ideological commitment to the one true way, erm, I mean APT :) Nah, that said, SMART sounds like the way forward, especially if & when someone implements YaST repository support.
