Hi all, I am updating my oS 13.2 and I see several packages relative to KDE with version "14.12.1" instead of the expected "4.14.x". These packages come from the repo-update but it seems to me the version number is simply wrong.
For now I have just aborted the update but, before opening a bug-report, I would ask whether this version number is the expected one.
Best, Andrea
I updated without looking too closely. So far everything works ok and internal versions on a few packages show Platform Version 4.14.4.
For instance kCalc shows in yast as 14.12.1-8.1 yet when you click help About it says version 2.13 Using KDE DEV-Platform 4.14.4
Similarly, Kongueror in yast says 14.12.1-8.21 But Help about shows Version 4.14.4 Using KDE Development Platform 4.14.4
The change log for Kong's last two entries is:
Mon 12 Jan 2015 04:00:00 AM PST tittiatcoke@gmail.com - Update to KDE Applications 14.12.1 * KDE Applications 14.12.1 * See https://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-applications-14.12.1.php <<<<<<<< Sun 09 Nov 2014 04:00:00 AM PST tittiatcoke@gmail.com - Update to 4.14.3 * KDE 4.14.3 SC Bugfix Release * See http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-4.14.3.php
The line I marked with <<<<< indicates a web page that seems to suggest this name change was intentional, even if bizarre. See also the first link in that page which points to https://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-applications-14.12.0.php
These KDE devs must have all moved to Colorado where the weed is cheap and legal because they are getting more and more jolly with the version numbers.
Very large jump in package numbers does seem odd.
The KDE Applications are now on a more frequent release schedule with a date-based numbering system, whilst other components of KDE (Plasma Desktop, Frameworks) go off on other numbering directions. I think it might have been better, however, since the 4.x series is almost over, to have just stuck with that for the apps and changed the system once the other new KDE components have fully taken the place of the old. Changing the scheme right at the end of a 6-year series of releases just confuses everything.
