I do not use this drive but I have used ones from seagate to copy over files to that I wanted to keep.
I understand that but what i am looking for is software that acts like the WD MyBook software. With a gui and allows you to "see" the files in the backup. So, if i want to restore, say 3 files, i could browse the backup and restore those 3 files to either the original location or a different destination.
I use a 1 TB WD MyBook with openSuse. I formatted it in 4 partitions with YAST (reiserfs, just because I am used to it), 3 of them encrypted (using Yast, very easy... when attaching the USB I am asked for the password), 1 "normal" for music etc. where there is no need to protect the data. I use simple tar commands that I have written down to simple text files which I made executable, gave them meaningful names.sh and put them in a directory "backup" on my desktop. I can now simply click the desired backup-"script". To restore or have a look at the backupped files I can use konqueror, I can even look at the compressed files and take out one of them per drag and drop. Can you have more "GUI"?
