Kmail starts over and over again

Whenever I enter X, be it in kde3, windowmaker or any other window manager, kmail starts just before the window manager starts, and it is not in my ~/.xinitrc . When I close down kmail, it restarts a minute or so after. It is as though I were running a script " while [ true ]; do kmail &; sleep 60; done" ;=) "grep -r kmail .[a-zA-Z]* " doesn't give me any clues.
