I've been wondering, does -I actually force an interface or just specify where the ping command starts from and routing sends it out the other port? I seem to recall Cicso routers do that, but I'll have to verify.
Here's the info on the Cisco extended ping command: The Extended ping Command "When a normal ping command is sent from a router, the source address of the ping is the IP address of the interface that the packet uses to exit the router. If an extended ping command is used, the source IP address can be changed to any IP address on the router. The extended ping is used to perform a more advanced check of host reachability and network connectivity." This is what I see on my notebook running 42.2. The -I changes the source address, not the interface it leaves from. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/routing-information-protocol-r... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
