Out of curiosity, I Googled "hal.hotplug[*]: DEVPATH is not set" and came up with many hits, a lot of them current and crossing multiple Linux distributions... so, it doesn't look like this is a SUSE-specific problem.
Thanks for taking the time!
This one is interesting and comes from the SUSE lists: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2005-Apr/3170.html
I did search on Google before posting, and looked at this one. But the fix suggested (use usbfs instead of usbdevfs in /etc/fstab) doesn't apply, since that is already in the file.
There are several interesting comments here: http://dropline-gnome.sourceforge.net/forums/ Note: Use my search string "hal.hotplug[*]: DEVPATH is not set" in the search field in the upper right corner of the page.
Likewise similar postings on this topic - they seem to do with hotplug issues when ipw2100/2200 wireless cards are put in, but I don't have a wireless card here, so again it's no direct help.
Finally, the string "DEVPATH" appears in only two scripts under /etc/hotplug/: input.rc usb.rc I wish I had a solution, but Google at least found some clues worth investigating...
It may be just a shortcoming in the hotplug system, which we need to wait to have sorted out. I actually preferred the old way, where you mounted things yourself, and then you knew what was going on. For a non-programmer like me, trying to follow a trail through the cat's cradle that is hotplug is pretty daunting. -- Pob hwyl / Best wishes Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - Meddalwedd Rhydd yn Gymraeg www.cymrux.org.uk - Linux Cymraeg ar un CD
