Go to the sun java sight and download the 1.3 version. there is a gziped NON rmp version , unzip and untat it and run the install script. then edit your path , and away you go. I did this on a 6.4 box and it works just fine , have not gotten to it on 7.0 as I have just done a clean install over the old 6.4 box. It ran ok an the even thofggh its anold p166 with only 64 meg ram.
Sun Java 1.3 is RedHat oriented <sigh> and does not work on SuSE 7.0 due to some missing/different STL library. OTH, IBM Java 1.3 works fine under SuSE 7.0.
Thanks , I tried the gziped tar ball , as I did not trust the rmp for the suse 6.4 box. wich one did you use ? the RPM ot the gziped binary files? this could have been your problem Funny how it wont work on 7.0 when it would on 6.4 ? btw i first removed the sus4e rpms than unziped the binary file and ran it. Worked well. I hopefully will try the binary on 7.0 , as I still ahve it on the server , just emialme in a week or so amd ill let you know how it worked.
