First of all I'd like to thank Sid Boyce and Khanh Tran for giving me help in copying a DVD movie. Sid for the info on dvdbackup and Khanh for answering what files to copy. I now have developed a real problem on my SuSE 9.2 system. Up until today I had no problems playing DVD movies using xine. I installed libdvdcss and was able to get xine to work for the last few months. Now for some reason I'm getting the following when I run xine: ============================================================ eck@DeathStar:~> xine This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.2. (c) 2000-2004 The xine Team. libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access libdvdread: Could not open /dev/dvd with libdvdcss. libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access libdvdread: Could not open /dev/dvd with libdvdcss. libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading eck@DeathStar:~> ============================================================= Something is preventing me from accessing /dev/dvd (linked to /dev/hde). I tried removing the /dev/dvd entry in /etc/fstab thinking that when I insert the DVD the system tries to open(mount) /dev/dvd and hence locks it. I also checked /dev/hde permissions: brw------- 1 eck disk 33, 0 2004-10-02 03:38 /dev/hde I tried "chmod 666 /dev/hde" which did not help.
