I have found that when posting to a Linux user's group, listserver, etc. that it is best to avoid HTML. Some lists that I have been on will eventually flame you if you persist. The reason is that some users prefer console-based email clients that are plain-text only.
My email client DOES handle HTML, but I set up a rule that spots HTML messages and transfers them directly to the trash without ever cluttering up the inbox. I had to later add a rule for this list, so that all its messages don't get trashed.
