Hello,
I've searched on google for a solution but from what I've read, it seems like thunderbird will no longer be able to access gmail accounts using pop3. I received a notice from google, that after May 30 I will no longer be ale to retrieve mail using username/password. Oauth 2.0 apparently is only available for imap and not pop3 and 2sv with app passwords is not possible with thunderbird.
I have not seen any notice of them phasing out pop3, but I don't suppose it works with oauth2.
Why is not pop3 available with app passwords in Thunderbird? Th has no idea that the password is special.
AFAIK, you have to:
- activate 2FA on account (on gmail web page) - this allows application passwords, so generate one for Th, and use it as usual. Just configure Th to use pop3.
Is there an alternative way to keep using thunderbird with pop3, so as to not have to leave mail on google's servers?
Even with pop3 the default is to leave all mail on google servers, that's a different setting. And with imap you can also download and delete on server, but using fetchmail instead.
I set it up to delete all mail from the server. With pop, I can do that and still keep the mail in my Tbird folers from as far back as I want. I leave nothing on the gmail server. As I understand it, with imap if you delete from the server you delete the local copy slso. The approach jdd suggested I like because it alows me to keep all the incoming or outgoing messages (copies). I don't yest understand all the steps, but I'll figure it out. I've heard about fetchmail, but don't know if is as simple as jdd's approach. Thanks, Gustav
