In my case,

Until yesterday it was 32 GB, but now I've increased to 96 GB.

Hmmm, what's that, ..... (_ _?
Sorry, what's what? On my previous session before typing this, Thunderbird was unusable right after reboot. Black, or non responsive. I commented out the settings in my /etc/security/limits.conf, and rebooted. Got these limits: cer@Telcontar:~> ulimit -a core file size (blocks, -c) unlimited data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited scheduling priority (-e) 0 file size (blocks, -f) unlimited pending signals (-i) 128109 max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64 max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 1024 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8 POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200 real-time priority (-r) 0 stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) 1200 virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited file locks (-x) unlimited cer@Telcontar:~> So I have to set bigger limits. I don't know how you get those huge limits. [... rebooted] I now have: cer@Telcontar:~> ulimit -a core file size (blocks, -c) unlimited data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited scheduling priority (-e) 0 file size (blocks, -f) unlimited pending signals (-i) 128109 max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64 max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 65536 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8 POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200 real-time priority (-r) 0 stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) 10000 virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited file locks (-x) unlimited cer@Telcontar:~> Thunderbird was responsive (I'm using Alpine to post), but after I switched to another desktop, it went full black, unresponsive. Now it is back, one full minute it was out. I don't know what is going on. Now it is black again, unresponsive. It has to be killed, does not responde to close. Starting it in safe mode. It does not go black, but it is unable to redraw the window, it is unresponsive again. I restart it, I can not open settings. White page. I can not see hardware accel setting. I see on the status line that it says: Gmail (C): Sending login information... and later a tiny dark grey popup says authentification failure. I can move from tab to tab, albeit slowly: inbox, calendar, adress book (in safe mode), but not settings. Ill try in full mode. Control Q works, after a few seconds. Starting in normal mode. The settings page appears after a delay. In search box, I type "hard". There is no setting for hardware, so no hardware accel. I search instead for "accel" and now hardware accell appears. Restart Th. It seems to respond faster, but still slowly. It doesn't seem to have problems now with gmail, but it does with usenet (which is a local, same computer, proxy server, so no internet involved). In fact, the proxy complains: <7.3> 2022-10-09T15:07:43.322295+02:00 Telcontar leafnode 13111 - - Cannot write to client: Broken pipe <7.3> 2022-10-09T15:07:43.322933+02:00 Telcontar leafnode 13674 - - Cannot write to client: Broken pipe <7.7> 2022-10-09T15:07:43.323010+02:00 Telcontar leafnode 13111 - - Client timeout, disconnecting. <7.7> 2022-10-09T15:07:43.323076+02:00 Telcontar leafnode 13674 - - Client timeout, disconnecting. And now, again, Thunderbird doesn't redraw its window (but it is not black). It appears to have problems with the news. I see a single message in the terminal where I started Thunderbird, I don't know when it printed: cer@Telcontar:~> thunderbird & [1] 14763 cer@Telcontar:~> Missing chrome or resource URL: resource:///modules/MailUtils.js cer@Telcontar:~> I have no idea if related to anything. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
