Hi there --
You are kidding right?
From a server perspective, Linux is a major player today, not in x >>years.
You are right from a server perspective. I guess I was referring to it as a standard desktop OS, like Windows or OSX.
You need to read some of Fred's postings. They are very >>informative, and many talk about corporate acceptance.
I'm the only one at my company who uses linux on the job. Everyone else is using windows 2000 professional.
Oracle has announced plans for 100% elimination of Sun Servers in >>favor of Linux.
I'm not a big fan of Oracle. I think they charge too much money for "bells and whistles".
Many major corporations have also made very public statements about >>there plan to use the 2.6.x kernel for core systems.
Thats great, I hope that linux takes over as predominant OS in the workplace.
Personally, my company's main customer is major automotive >>manufacturer.
We implemented a Java Servlet based system in 1999.
In 1999, we were given one choice: WinNT
I am currently under a corporate deadline to move off of WinNT (MS >>is ending support July 1). The major corporation approved choices for a Java Server platform: >>Solaris (Sun), Redhat, SuSE.
Note the absence of MS in that list.
This is no surprise. Microsoft got into a big law suit with Sun over this very issue. I think Microsoft considers Sun's Java a threat to its big .NET enterprise. ~~Nick _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
