This is a message I posted a few days ago regarding a nice dual boot Have the boot disk you made when you installed suse Find and copy loadlin.exe onto a floppy -or- just insert the suse cd find loadlin and copy it to C:\ Boot to dos insert the suse boot disk copy vmlinuz C:\ So you have vmlinuz and loadlin on C:\ ############### see script below ################ this works excellent! rob Linux Home page <A HREF="http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm"><A HREF="http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm</A">http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm</A</A>> =============================================== I came across this how to last nite that worked so well I thought I'd pass it on <A HREF="http://linux-howto.com/ptHOWTO/mini/Loadlin+Win95"><A HREF="http://linux-howto.com/ptHOWTO/mini/Loadlin+Win95</A">http://linux-howto.com/ptHOWTO/mini/Loadlin+Win95</A</A>> essentially you put loadlin and vmlinuz in C:\ Then add this to your config.sys and autoexec.bat perviously Ive used a linux.bat file C:\loadlin.exe vmlinuz root=/dev/hdc..? ro this gives you a nice loader menu IF you plan a dual boot have a look at this ------------------------------------------------------------ [clipped from the how-to] 6.2. Method 2. This method is a bit more involved, but offers the greatest flexibility. What this method does it create your own custom boot menu, though it does not replace the Windows 95 boot menu. You will need a Config.sys and an Autoexec.bat file. · First you will need to define a Startup Menu in Config.sys (my comments to you are in parenthesis): ______________________________________________________________________ [menu] menuitem=Linux, Boot to Linux (This defines a Menu Block and gives it a description). menuitem=Win95, Boot to Windows 95 menucolor=15,1 (This gives a blue background with bright white text) menudefault=Linux, 15 (This sets the default menuitem and waits up to 15 seconds for input). [linux] shell=c:\loadlin.exe vmlinuz root=/dev/hd??? ro (where ?? is your linux / partition ie: a1 [win95] (Include the normal contents of your config.sys file here. If you didnot have a config.sys file before now, then leave this section blank). ______________________________________________________________________ · Save and exit your Config.sys file. If you want, you can use this Config.sys template to get started. · Next, edit your Autoexec.bat file (my comments to you are in parenthesis): ______________________________________________________________________ goto :win95 (Include the normal contents of your autoexec.bat file here. If you did not have an autoexec.bat file before now, then leave this sectionblank). ______________________________________________________________________ · Save and exit your Autoexec.bat file. If you want, you can use this Autoexec.bat template to get started. That should do it. The next time you reboot, you should get a Start Up menu with the option to boot to Linux or Windows 95. ######################################################################## millerd wrote:
I installed suse 6.0 over 5.3 on my two machines. These are dual booted to Win 98(sorry but I do need Win for work!) Now after I reran LILO neither machine will completely boot 98. They seem to hang up and leave the MS 98 screen on for ever and nothing short of a hard boot can get rid of it. any ideas?
