The program gpm should allow me to use the mouse to copy and paste in a console session (ttyn to be clear, eg. tty2).
Yes.
When I try to use it in TW I am told that it is in sbin and requires sudo. Which I looked up and this has been explained for security reasons. The man page speaks about the x-server but does not mention if the x-server has to be started manually.
Forget that.
But if I am running on tty7 a KDE desktop session, shouldn't the xserver already be running?
I tried with sudo and with su - but both go through without complain and ... nothing happens. (sudo gmp)
It has to be started as service. Normally in level 5 gpm is stopped automatically, so it has to be restarted. It is usually compatible with graphics, but not always. I use gpm in Leap; if it is not broken in TW I can help you later with it, now I'm too busy. There was a yast module to configure it, but it has been removed. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
