I have had no problem with gramofile, but for some reason have used `xmix` with it only. Of course anything else should not be using the soundcard. xmix let's you choose the source in a simple manner (line- mic or cd).

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately, it didn't help. It does not matter what mixer app I use. Still no go. Out of despiration, I tried audacity and it was able to record the Line in with no problems.
