Hi people,
I've updated SuSE 9.0 server (mk_initrd, mod-init, vga=normal, modprobe.conf,... ) and compiled a vanilla 2.6.2 kernel from ftp.kernel.org. It worked very well.
Then , I've tried a kernel upgrade on that machine to a vanilla 2.6.3 kernel, but every time i recompile the kernel and reboot I get only a blank screen on console. The strange thing is that, even with the blank screen, I can log in by ssh and all the the services in the machine seems to be up with no problems.
I've also played with framebuffer support in kernel (I marked only VESA and unchecked all the others ) but nothing changed. I don't know what to do. What can be happening?
Thanks
CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE=y is needed in the .config file, otherwise you don't get a VT console. My complete settings ---- CONFIG_NETCONSOLE=y CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_HW_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_SERIAL_CORE_CONSOLE=y # CONFIG_LP_CONSOLE is not set # Console display driver support CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y # CONFIG_MDA_CONSOLE is not set CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_PCI_CONSOLE=y Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ....
