I've got three hard disks on my system, a cd-rom and cd-rw. The first two disks are on channel 0 on the IDE controller on my motherboard (Epox 8KHA+ / VIA KT266A chipset) and the cd-rom and cd-rw are on channel 1. These two hard disks hold my Win98 partitions. I have my third hard disk connected to channel 0 on my Abit HotRod 100 (Highpoint 370) controller in a non-RAID configuration. That disk has my Linux partitions. I had SuSE 7.3 running on that disk until earlier this week. With 7.3, my disks were identified as follows: IDE 0 Master = /hda IDE 0 Slave = /hdb IDE 1 Master = /hdc IDE 1 Slave = /hdd IDE 3 (add-on controller) Master = /hde. All of my Linux partitions were /hde partitions. When I installed 8.0, it identified the hard disks as follows: IDE 0 Master = /hde IDE 0 Slave = /hdf IDE 3 (add-on controller) Master = /hda. Install went fine with it set up like this, but LILO doesn't work (which isn't really surprising). I have to mess with it some more to see if I can get it to work. Does anybody have any idea why 8.0 would ID the drives differently than 7.3? Mike B __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
