I can't tell from your mail if you have installed Xfree864.02 or not. If you haven't, do so & also go to the www.nvidia.com site and download their latest drivers. The exact URL is: http://www.nvidia.com/Products/Drivers.nsf/Linux.html Install 4.02 and the drivers, then run Sax2 again. I have a GeForce2 MX & have gotten it to work fine (it wasn't easy though...:) ) Hope it helps! When installing Suse 7.0 Personal, it seems to identify my videocard fine, although I am only allowed to use the lowest resolution 640 X ... [I forgot the second number]. In addition, I can't click on the 3D support button. Anyways, when I bring up, for instance, KDE, everything is fuzzy, as if only every 5th pixel is displayed. When I try to run Sax or Sax2, they both crash. I don't know why. The ServerLog shows: Fatal server error: open_framebuffer: failed to open /dev/fb0 (no such device) It is my impression that if there is a specific driver for my video card, then I shouldn't need a framebuffer. The xfree86 website shoes that the Nvidia GeForce2 MX is supported on Xfree96 4.0.2., although I'm not sure what version comes with Suse 7.0. I've tried to run xf86config, but there is no listing for my video card. I've also tried reinstalling Suse, 3 times, and still have the same problem. So, can anyone tell me what's going on? If my videocard wasn't supported, wouldn't Yast or Sax tell me it wasn't. It seems like something else is wrong. My system is: K7 Thunderbird 1000 Ghz (100 Mhz FSB) 256 Mb Cas3 133Mz Corsair RAM Abit KT7A-RAID, with Via KT133A northbridge and HPT370 RAID controller Plextor 12x/10x/32x CDRW on ATA-66, as secondary (/dev/hdc?) IBM Deskstar 7200 rpm, on ATA-66, as primary (/dev/hda) Asus 7100 32Mb (Nvidia GeForce2 MX) Creative 128 sound card 19" Optiquest monitor Keyboard, mouse. By the way, even though my BIOS is set to boot from CD-ROM, I can't seem to do this since I moved my CDRW from IDE1 to IDE2. Perhaps this has some bearing on the problem? I'm new to Linux, so I may be doing something dumb. Thanks, I appreciate your help, Derek p.s. I'm getting rather down on Suse. The installation support seems almost non-existant, Yast1 and 2 both seem to have difficulty noticing potential problems with my hardware, the manuals for the Personal edition seem watered down (although the KDE info is nice), and the Suse web site has very little information (for instance, compare their support database against Matlab's tech support database). If anyone would care to offer a positive word about Suse, I'd appreciate it. On the upside, I've been reading this mailing group for a couple weeks now, and you guys are great. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
