I'm almost sure it is. I could perhaps disable the cable, but if I do, the mixer will not show a volume control for the headphones.
If you think it is a driver issue, you could try booting some live system (Knoppix, an older openSUSE etc).
I remembered that this issue has been there since ever, so older openSUSE I tried all of them since 2009 or so.
Hmmm. Usually such problems don't stay hidden for so long, but maybe. I googled "sb1040 sound blaster linux headphone jack", there are some hits, but nothing really promising. One suggests using another driver "snd_ctxfi", but it's quite an old post. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (22.7°C)
