On my previous questions on how to get my network card to work I got several answers ... Thanks to you all.
My "only" problem now is ... it doesn't work.
Some of the replies I got earlier suggested that I should change the slot of the card to see if there is anything wrong there and when I started Windows I saw that it couldn't find the card either ... so I decided to buy a new card (same brand ... the only type of card they had at "my" shop).
Anyway, I plugged it into the computer, removing the old card, and booted the computer into Windows and it recognized the new card correctly. So I booted the computer into linux (using a floppy). I then tried to configure the card as eth0 using the Via-Rhine II module but it doesn't recognize the card, ifconfig only lists a loopback interface and ifconfig eth0 says "device not found"
Changing the slot doesn't improve things.
Running YAST2 and trying to install the network/base option gives me "network card not found" message.
Right now I have no idea what to do (I'm not sure that I did before 8-) and I'm feeling slightly frustrated.
The card is visible from Windows but Linux doesn't seem to be able to detect it.
Since I'm inexperienced with Linux I'm assuming that I'm making some fundamental mistake ... but I have no idea which one.
Does anyone know how I should proceed?
