Charles, When I do a java -version I get the following> btrol@linux:~> java -version
bash: java: command not found dbtrol@linux:~> su Password: linux:/home/dbtrol # java -version bash: java: command not found linux:/home/dbtrol # j2re -version bash: j2re: command not found But java is installed in /usr/java. What is wrong. David
Try.. charles@linux:~> whereis java java: /etc/java /usr/lib/java /usr/share/java /usr/share/man/man1/java.1.gz charles@linux:~> it should point you to where your java is based from.. in my case its /etc/java I also needed to do this.. export JAVA_BINDIR=/usr/lib/java/jre/bin export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/java/jre export JAVA_ROOT=/usr/lib/java export JRE_HOME=/usr/lib/java/jre Try running those commands.. but be sure to match your paths.. These work for me.. may not for you.. know what I mean? Now after I did that I was able to do this.. charles@linux:~> java -version java version "1.4.2" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2-b28) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-b28, mixed mode) charles@linux:~> --Charles
