When some one logs in, not as root, the Kinternet needs to be started: right click on the symbol and choose 'start'. Only then the DOD will work. I am a bit dissapointed it doesn't remember that, when you logoff, you need to start it again the next time. Well, at least you don't dial in by mistake.
Hi, people. Try my solution with a grain of salt, as I am not an user of `kinternet'. One could modify file `/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-ppp0' and change the line `STARTMODE="manual"' so it reads `STARTMODE="onboot"'. However, I rather decided to modify file `/etc/init.d/boot.local' for adding a line `ifup ppp0' at its end (just after the few `setserial' this machine needs). But I got another problem in that area you do not appear to have, and I wonder where my mistake might be. I even tried `kinternet' (but outside KDE) to no avail. When `smpppd' calls `wvdial', it first creates a temporary configuration file in `/var/run/smpppd/wvdial-tmp.conf'. That file contains the correct phone number (proving that it gets to the data saved by Yast2), but it does not contain the correct login name nor password, nor the idle timeout. Both `Username' and `Password' are set to `dummy'. To get over that difficulty, I renamed `/usr/bin/wvdial', and replaced it by a shell script which edits `/var/run/smpppd/wvdial-tmp.conf' on the fly before the original `wvdial' program sees it.
