Sound an octave too high...Chipmunk invasion!

I'm having a strange problem that's never been an issue in any previous distro I've used on my system. All the sound eminating from my system is approximately an octave too high. Regardless of whether I'm playing an mp3 file or streaming RealAudio, everything sounds like "chipmunks." I'm running Suse 7.3 on an Intel i810 system with onboard sound. Suse properly identifies my sound chip and the sound test works...it's just too high! Any ideas? Thanks. Michael
