[OT] How can I help out with scanner devel?

Hey all, Yep, the Purple Tiger here *yet again*!! :-) I have a Umax Astra 2100U USB scanner. As far as I know, it isn't supported under Linux. Can anyone suggest a way in which I could help a developer develop a driver for it? Or where I would go to find out such information?
