Could be.
The nvidia/ati manufacturer driver is not usually updated as it is not part of the distro. It could be disabled, though.
Sorry. I don't get it ... If I disable (I do not know how to do that, anyway...) the graphic card driver ... then what shall I expect to see on my display ? Regards, Maura
