2GB File limit

Does anyone have some info regarding how to get around the ~2GB file limit in Linux? I seem to remember that it can be done, but can't remember where I saw that. Also, is it true that ALPHA based Linux (the new SuSE) does not have this limitation? Thanx Jackson jaxsn@pdga.com
