For starters, try to use growisofs itself.
Second, what kind of dvd burner do you have? Sony DVD RW DRU-510A Displays in Konquerer as: usb-DRX510UL_SYQ13030:0.0.0 This /dev/sr0, is it a scsi dvd burner? Nope, USB Try using
growisofs -Z /dev/hdc, or /dev/hdd, depending where your burner is located at. Have you tried burning it on another OS,
Yup, Mepis 2004 and it works just fine, same box
or on another computer with the same burner?
no. I know that the usb cable for this device is VERY touchy, but it has worked before on the SuSE 9.2 side of this box, and did just fine on the debian distro today. I did find one problem with the burn attempt which was that the temp file was full - apparently SuSE doesn't empty the temp files on boot - when I emptied it the burner was very willing to burn a DVD. However, it did so in record time and when completed there wass nothing on the disk even though K3b said that the burn was successful. At that point in the day I elected to backup everything I felt to be of any particular importance, blew away both the SuSE 9.2 and Mepis 2004.04 partitions, and reinstalled both OSs. The on-line updates were still running when I left work so it will be Monday before I can see if the external DVD writer will be functional. Meanwhile, with Sony DRU-720A Double Layer internal drives on sale for $99 I may just purchase one and toss the external Sony 510A USB drive. But I intent to try and get the USB drive to work prior to making the jump. Thanks for your suggestions. dave -- David C.
