I was wondering whether anyone had experienced similar difficulties with a 3Com 56K Professional Message Modem in SuSE 7.2. A sample kinternet log reads: Sending: ATDT08450888181 CONNECT 33600/ARQ Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt. [1c]`[0e]@`[0e]@`[0e]@`[0e]@`[0e]@`[0e]@`[0e]@`[0e] ... Don't know what to do! Starting pppd and hoping for the best. Starting pppd at Wed Oct 3 23:12:11 2001 Another reads: Sending: ATDT4779988 CONNECT 52000/ARQ Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt. [1c]`[0e]@`[0e]@[1c] `[0e]@| [0e]`[1c][1c][00][1c] `[0e]G1[00] ... Don't know what to do! Starting pppd and hoping for the best. Starting pppd at Wed Oct 3 23:14:32 2001 In both cases the connection is effectively dead; konqueror, for instance, throws up an "unknown host" error whenever I try to access a web page. The problem also exists when logged in as root user. Even having stripped out YaST2's initialization scripts (ATZ, AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0), reduced the baud rate to 57600, uninstalled and reconfigured the device as a generic hardware modem, and restored the modem's factory defaults, the problem still persists. Oddly enough, when I substitute a Diamond 56e Pro in its place (even without modifying the 3Com's YaST2 settings), the 56e in conjunction with kinternet is able to function perfectly well. The problem isn't one I've experienced in 7.0 or 7.1, Mandrake 7.2 or 8.0, nor one I currently encounter in Windows 98 s.e. (which isn't using any kind of initialization script). Thanks in advance, Michael
