[opensuse] DVD playback in Leap42.3

I have some collections of shorts on DVDs. After the first short, VLC and GNOME video players lose the audio. Dragon doesn't respond after loading the DVD. I've tried MPlayer, which has always been reliable, but can only get the Spanish translation. libdvdcss is installed, along with the standard codecs. Full-length DVDs aren't any problem. I have GNOME 3.20.4 and KDE 5.8.7 on Leap 42.3. Can someone help me troubleshoot this?
