I think you're likely to find more and more cases like that. The original IMB PC-AT keyboard DIN connector got replaced by the PS2 mini-DIN, and the PS2 will eventually be replaced by USB. The original serial mouse got replaced by the PS2 mouse, and that'll very likely get replaced by the USB mouse.

Were the first mice serial? My first mouse was a Logitec bus mouse, with it's own controller. Later, I had an ATI video card, that supported a Logitek bus mouse.
