Top in root window?

Hi, Is there a way to display the output of 'top' in the root window, that is, without using a terminal? I'm looking for something similar to root-tail (http://www.goof.com/pcg/marc/root-tail.html), but then for program output instead of file content. I'm using KDE2 and can't get the 'Background Program' background mode in the KDE Control Center working with 'top'. TIA, Martijn
