I just use a soft RAID 1 with a pair of internal SATA drives. It was easy to set up during my openSuSE 10.3 install. This won't give you snapshots or SneakerNET. But you don't have to do anything to back up.
You're kidding, right? I bet less than 10% of data loss is caused by hard drive failure, and that is the only one you have covered.
