Actually, I've had the Permidia 2 working for quite a while at 1024x768. Works fine and true color is great. You have to set up the X server using xf86config and not SaX. I appreciate any assistance. <p>A shot in the dark is a very good description of your <br>chances for getting the Permedia2 to work... <p>I never got my Permedia2 to do better than 640x480 (16 colors), <br>which was totally useless with the standard configuration of the <br>windowmanagers (There was NO other way to shut down X than <br>the 3-finger grip and most windows were larger than the screen) <p>Of course it is possible to configure the WMs to be usable <br>at 640x480, but remember, I was (and still am) a newbie, more <br>or less. <p>This specific card was, however, acting weirdly in DOS as well. <br>Many older DOS games could not be convinced that it was SVGA- <br>capable or VESA-compatible... even with display-doctor. <p>I finally replaced the 8MB Permedia2 card with a 4MB S3 ViRGE/GX2 <br>which is happily doing 1280x1024 in 16bit colors.
