The mail is easy: create a local imap server, and export all old mail to it from the virtual machine. Then import all that mail it TB, or just leave it there. The addresses... dunno. This is great news. You just gave me an idea how to solve the problem of getting my father off AOL. I have him setup with Thunderbird and with a little work I got his AOL address list exported and manually converted. With some googling I found there were commercially available tools to export AOL data but only one free address list converter that I could find. That free tool didn't help because it relied on a save feature
Carlos E. R. wrote: that was removed from AOL (no doubt AOL removed it to make it harder to leave). We both thought it was silly to buy a tool that is used only one time so I hadn't figured out a way to get his old AOL mail into Thunderbird. Using your IMAP method, I might be able to get his AOL mail into Thunderbird. The instructions for getting Thunderbird setup with AOL say to select IMAP for the server type. If I understand correctly, I just use his old AOL client to drag locally stored messages back to the inbox which is on the AOL IMAP server. Then I just go to Thunderbird and retrieve the messages from the AOL IMAP server. I will try this tonight if I have the chance.
