You need 7MB graphics memory (24bit) and a pixel clock of 119MHz at least (reduced mode, for LCDs only - 147MHz for CRTs). Current cards have >=256MB and >=350MHz... Please don't nail me on TNT2, but that is what I remember. At least the GeForce2 was capable of doing 1600x1200 on our CRTs AFAIR.
