Lots of good advice in there. I'm going to experimentmwith the Drobo I bought as a first effort. Should be in my hands in a week.
and please report, the drobo seems very promising, but the modern versions are not cheap :-)
Agreed on the expense. I've wanted one for yeara, but couldn't justify the cost.. The unit I just bought I got for less than 10 percent of the new cost. But it seems to have all the features I was looking for. My biggest unanswered questions are: how big a drive (in TB) will it accept? How big of a logical volume can it build? The currently sold units only go to 64 TB volumes. That's enough for me, but not by a factor 10 as an example. If the 5 year old unit I juat bought can't go over 20 TB volumes, I will be dissapointed.
