Hello SuSE (save space don't use the periods in-between) IMHO :)
Anyways I have always wondered why that a SuSE user doesn't need an append line in LILO to use more than 64 Megs. I have brought it up before, and people either don't know or ask if I use a developers kernel or something. Which I don't and I have 128Megs, never had my SuSE have a problem with seeing and useing that much memory.
My TOP: 8:47pm up 50 min, 7 users, load average: 0.00, 0.04, 0.02 62 processes: 60 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped CPU states: 2.70ser, 2.7ystem, 0.0ice, 94.9 0dle Mem: 127852K av, 80572K used, 47280K free, 42624K shrd, 3396K buff Swap: 124988K av, 0K used, 124988K free 32424Kcached
Look! I don't even need my SWAP, or use it at least.
Well on futher note, I did build my system myself. Here is the basics <Yea I wana show off a bit <g>> FIC PA-2012 w/1Meg Cache w/128Megs SDRAM 10nanosec K6-233MegHz CPU, AGPcard Xpert@work 8Megs w/3DfX I with 4megs. (ok way old stuff, just say no to Intel) Ok SuSE, I was told my SWAP file "must" be broken or not working right?? (if this is true its never worked from 5.0 SuSE through 5.2) No mater what I have compiling/20 things open/or whatever huge image I have up...I still get nothing/no useage out of my SWAP. 1) What do you think? Ok I still need a tech responce on why LILO doesn't need an append line to it to use more that 64Megs. Debian/RedHat/Caldera/slackware users all report they have to USE an append line. 2) What gives on this? Anyways a few things to notice: a) OSVIEW after awile or maybe a updatedb or forced fcsk will show heavy memory useage and it wont bleed off (drop down, even after hours of useage after) b) I never see my swap used at all. Never! c) Page is never used but I think that is only for lowbie PCs d) On Bootup I do see the message: <4>Starting kswapd v 1.4.2.2 (heh dunno) <4>Adding Swap: 124988k swap-space (priority -1) e) is swapon? what should I do to start it? if it aint. f) grep swapon rc.d folders didn't turn up anything if I am doing this right. g) ran out of ideas, please help.
