If course it's binary. It's a program, not a script. Why isn't it executable?
I could be barking up the wrong tree, but haven't you already installed it with yast? Edit the /sbin/init.d/boot.local file by adding a /usr/local/soundon command - that was all I used to do :-) -- This Email is 100% Virus Free! How do I know?
