Try adding your home dir in the exclude folders in the baloofilerc and see if he kept his promise to shut it all down.
Depending on whether his last fix went into opensuse repositories or not, it might have one big surge of file io, when you do that, but then it should be done with.
What will Baloo do with sym-links in home directories? How about nfs-mounted filesystems pointed to by sym-links in home directories?
In my case we've got tens of thousands of 4-GB binary files that I'm not sure we want to index.
Good point, I forgot about that. Under the nepomuk regime I told it to index ~/Documents and only ~/Documents for a very good reason. I have ~/bin, ~/lib and ~/virtual_images as well as a few things that come to mind. I suspect many other people also have such 'binaries' under their home directory. Yes I know I can set up Baloo to exclude them but that's not the point. First, I shouldn't need to. I had things set up but Baloo isn't honouring them. Second, there are going to be things indexed that I simply forgot to exclude. That's very different from indexing things I fort to include. You notice things that aren't there that you thought should be and take remedial action. Sorry, the "developers know best" attitude doesn't make sense. It might have made sense with a starting point but not as a revision to an established 'product' which we had used and configured. Microsoft has been pressured to ring back the start button. Perhaps we can pressure to being back things to work they way they did in this case. -- Not big on food that takes less than 15 seconds to cook and comes wrapped in paper brighter than the packaging for Barbie dolls. -- Found on GoodCompany.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
