I have been trying all day to get a generic ET4000/W32i card to run in 16 bit colour under XF86. After reading the docs (if I understood them correctly) the 3.1 release does not support 16 bit colour in the SVGA server for this chipset. Also, I found that the Accel server will not work with my system for some reason
.
I downloaded the new server from SuSe for the ET4000 family and installed it. Now the Accel server works but I am still unable to get 16 bit colour with eithe r the SVGA or Accel servers. When I try to change the resolution by adding DefaultColorDepth 16 the server crashes with a message that 16 bit is not supported by my card. I know that it can run at this depth as that is the normal resolution I run under Win95 in 800x 600. I have an IBM 17P monitor with a HorizSync of 30-82 and a VertSync of 50-110. The card has 2M of memory. Am I missing something or is 16 bit simply not going to work with this card in Linux?
